Microsoft’s subtle website lets you know if it’s time for an upgrade

Amirunningxp.com saves users the donkey work.

By Ben Sullivan

It seems Microsoft has commandeered the URL amirunningxp.com and put it to good use letting visitors know exactly whether they are or are not running on XP.

It can sometimes be very difficult for users to figure out exactly what operating system they are using. Some methods include trying to remember which operating system you bought, using a ‘start’ menu to navigate to a ‘control panel’, or even watching intently on your computer’s start up sequence to see a logo appear which should help you understand what operating system you are on.

However, with the handy amirunningxp.com website, finding out if you need to worry about an impending hacker storm is just a few clicks away.

Try it out now, and go to amirunningxp.com.

Offical support for Windows XP ended today, 8 April. Microsoft first alerted users to this date back in 2007, but there are still some UK organisations that have had to get an emergency custom support agreement to carry on being secure until 2015. Without security support, machines running Windows XP could now be vulnerable to hackers using malware and viruses.

If you are still using Windows XP, read CBR’s migration survival guide here.
