Microsoft is reportedly working on a new smartwatch to take on similar products being developed by LG, Apple, Samsung, and Google.
The software major is currently working on designs for a touch-enabled watch device and has ordered unnamed suppliers in Asia to deliver required components for a potential watch-style device.
Microsoft’s move comes in the midst of big technology companies’ betting on the prospect of wearable, computerised devices incorporating sensors that can sense body temperature, geographic location and voice commands of users on the go, the Wall Street Journal reported.
The device is expected to be similar to Windows Phone handset incorporating a 1.5-inch display.
Apple is also reported to be working on wristwatch-like iOS device that incorporate curved glass, while Samsung and LG are also developing similar devices that are anticipated to be launched around the same time.
In addition, Google is testing its Android powered, internet-connected Google Glass, which is an eyeglass-style gadget that displays computerised information in the user’s field of vision.
