Microsoft to revamp MSN, launch its own news operation

MSN is visited by about 480 million visitors per month globally

By CBR Staff Writer

Microsoft is planning to launch its own news services, MSN News as part of its new re-designed MSN which is exclusively for Windows 8 and will be available for Internet Explorer 10 users by the end of October.

MSN for Windows 8 is claimed to offer trusted, world-class news from various sources, including new content relationships with the Associated Press and Reuters.

According to the firm, the new MSN News will deliver short brief news bites from 300-500 words and offer quick snap-shots of information.

Microsoft had sold its 50% share in news website MSNBC.com in July 2012 to its partner NBCUniversal, which is now majority-owned by Comcast.

MSN is redesigned for the users of Microsoft’s touch-optimised Windows 8 system and Internet Explorer 10 and allows manipulation of large icons across the screen and tap on the required contents they require to read.

The new site will also offer a uniform look all through its sections, ranging from news and sports to money and job listings.

As a flagship website of Microsoft, MSN is visited by about 480 million visitors per month globally and it serves as the entrance to other Microsoft online services including Outlook mail and Skype online calling.
