Microsoft is planning to consolidate its digital crimes and software piracy teams into a single Cybercrime Center to better deal with cyber crimes.
The new centre will be located at the company’s Washington campus in the US and will allow the company to better co-ordinate with governments and law enforcement agencies for investigating cyber crimes.
The centre will have a staff of 30 people who will work against cybercrime activities including malicious software as well as technology-facilitated child exploitation and piracy.
The centre will work in partnership with 70 other Microsoft investigators from across the globe.
Microsoft associate general counsel and cybercrime Center head, David Finn told, Wall Street Journal that malicious code and non-genuine code go hand-in-hand.
"This is not a Doritos-munching, pajama-clad basement-dweller behind this," Finn added. "We’re dealing with criminal enterprises."
