Microsoft has said that Bob Muglia, president of the Server and Tools Business (STB) division, will leave the company this summer after 23 years.
As president of the STB at Microsoft, Muglia has overall accountability for the STB business, including financial results, strategy, marketing and engineering.
The STB division is responsible for Microsoft’s infrastructure software, developer tools, and cloud platform, including products such as Windows Server, SQL Server, Visual Studio, System Center and the Windows Azure Platform.
In addition to his role leading STB, Muglia is a member of the company’s senior leadership team that sets overall company business and technology strategy. Before he was named president of STB in January 2009, Muglia was senior vice president for STB.
Since joining Microsoft in January 1988, Muglia has served in positions across all of the company’s business groups.
Prior to joining Microsoft, Muglia was a development manager at ROLM.
Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer wrote in an e-mail distributed to all employees that this is simply recognition that all businesses go through cycles and need new and different talent to manage through those cycles.
"Bob has been a phenomenal partner throughout this process, and he and his leadership team have the right strategy in place," Ballmer wrote.
