Microsoft has reported fourth quarter revenue of $16.04bn for the quarter ended June 30, 2010, a 22% increase from the same quarter in the previous year.

The company posted an operating income of $5.93bn in fourth quarter of 2010, up 49% from the same quarter prior year. For the fourth quarter, the company’s net income increased by 48% to $4.52bn.

The launch of Office 2010 and strong performance from existing products including Windows 7, Windows Server, Xbox, and Bing have contributed to the increase in revenue and profit, according to Microsoft.

Peter Klein, chief financial officer of Microsoft, said: "This quarter’s record revenue reflects the breadth of our offerings and our continued product momentum. The revenue growth, combined with our ongoing cost discipline, helped us achieve another quarter of margin expansion."

Kevin Turner, chief operating officer at Microsoft, said: We saw strong sales execution across all of our businesses, particularly in the enterprise with Windows 7 and Office 2010.

"Our transition to cloud services is well underway with offerings like Windows Azure and our Business Productivity Online Services, and we look forward to continuing our product momentum this fall with the upcoming launches of Windows Phone 7 and Xbox Kinect."

For the fiscal year ended June 30, 2010, Microsoft reported revenue of $62.48bn, a 7% increase from the prior fiscal year. Operating income increased by 18% to $24.10bn, and net income increased by 29% to $18.76bn, when compared with the prior year.
