Microsoft has bought Double Labs, the creator of the Echo Notification lock screen which allows users to personalise the appearance of their Android phones when in lock mode.
Double Labs is a two-year-old company with offices in Palo Alto, California and, according to the statistics of Google play store, the app has been downloaded between 1 million and 5 million times.
According to Microsoft Chief Experience Officer Julie Larson-Green, Microsoft is planning to take productivity to the next level, with the company last year launching Microsoft Next lock screen for Android.
Next was designed to display information and several controls at a glance in locked mode. It allows users to customise their lock screen with wallpapers and their favourite apps.
Similarly, Echo shows complete notifications to users. It allows users to control music without unlocking, auto group Instagram alerts, send emails and allows users to personalise their screens.
According to Julie, current lock screens in Android, Apple and Windows phones do not offer a personalised experience as they provide a list of alerts, one app at a time.
Microsoft is trying to change the situation by allowing users to both contextual and personal information on lock screen.
