Microsoft has released the Windows Embedded 8 family of operating systems (OS), the componentised version of Windows 8 with additional features to be used on specialised devices.
The family of the OS contains three versions including the Standard, Pro and Industry to be used for different purposes and is claimed to benefit from the Internet of Things as it allows the user to capture, analyse and act on data.
Microsoft Windows Embedded general manager, Kevin Dallas, said that the Windows Embedded 8 coupled with the Microsoft technologies for intelligent systems helps enterprises gain advantages in retail, manufacturing, healthcare and a variety of industries.
"Edge devices connected and working in unison with an enterprise’s broader IT infrastructure unleash the potential of the Internet of Things by yielding the actionable data and operational intelligence that drive businesses forward," Dallas said.
The Windows Embedded 8 Standard and Windows Embedded 8 Pro have been launched by the company and are available for original equipment manufacturers (OEM).
Made for the retail point-of-service (POS) applications and to be used by the manufacturing and healthcare industries, the Windows Embedded 8 Industry will be made available by the company on 01April 2013.
