Microsoft and Autodesk have partnered to deliver a new solution for 3D engineering and industrial design.
The companies have been working together since last year, working on a joint project called FreeForm to build a proof of concept with Autodesk Fusion 360 and Microsoft HoloLens.
Microsoft and Autodesk built several prototypes and tested various scenarios to identify how customers could benefit most from a mixed reality environment.
Fusion 360 is a cloud-based 3D design collaboration tool for product designers and engineers, whileHoloLens uses mixed reality to bring holographic, 3D content into the real world.
Autodesk Fusion 360 business developer manager Garin Gardiner said: "When we first saw HoloLens, we immediately sensed the possibilities for 3D engineering and industrial design.
"We explored how users could collaborate together by looking at the same holographic model and being able to walk around it and discuss various aspects of the design as if it were really sitting on their table."
