Microsoft is developing next generation technology which would enable operating phones, tablets and TVs from a distance, without needing to swipe over the device physically.
With the new ‘no-touch’ screen technology, people could use the movement of thier fingers to control a screen from the other side of the room, and even put their hands through screens to ‘touch’ objects.
The software major has reportedly started work on an electronic bracelet capable of detecting movements in users’ fingers, further allowing imitating the actions of poking and flicking the device’s screen.
Microsoft chief scientist Rico Malvar was cited by PTI as saying that work has begun on new screens that can be manipulated without needing to approach a gadget.
According to The Times, the new bracelet would enable the operation of a TV even if users have their back turned to the device or controlling it via a mobile device by placing hands within their pockets.
In addition, Microsoft also introduced new interactive displays including a ‘floating display’ that offers the illusion of a globe spinning or a dragon flying, just on top of a flat monitor, with cameras and motion sensors then allowing interaction with the floating objects.
