Mckoi Software has unveiled Version 1.0 of MckoiDDB, a distributed database system under the open source GPLv3 license. The company said MckoiDDB is a database management application that provides software developers an engine for organising complex data-sets over clusters of servers, and an API that supports transactions and low latency queries.

MckoiDDB is a complete database management system for storing, querying and developing complex distributed data-sets. According to the company, servers can be added or removed from the network while the system is running with zero downtime.

In addition, MckoiDDB implements a transaction model that supports the ACID database properties (atomicity, consistency, isolation, durability). All data stored in the system is automatically replicated over multiple servers, providing load balancing and fault tolerance in the event of a server failure.

MckoiDDB supports a wide range of tools for managing a data-set including snapshots, sharding, versioning and forking data, the company added. It also provides support for data models such as SQL through add-on libraries.

Reportedly, an SQL data model package for MckoiDDB is planned for release in January 2010.
