McAfee has entered into a worldwide agreement with HP to provide pre-installed McAfee Total Protection Service on HP StorageWorks X500 Data Vault series storage devices.

The company said Total Protection Service helps consumers and small business users by protecting their business data, and is available through HP as a 90-day trial subscription.

According to McAfee, the service leverages the software as a service (SaaS) technology and provides integrated endpoint, email and web protection with access to SecurityCenter, an online console managed by McAfee and available over the internet.

Todd Gebhart, executive vice president and general manager of consumer and small business segment at McAfee, said: “McAfee Total Protection Service is the industry’s first Security-as-a-Service solution offering always-on guard protection without additional investment in on-premise infrastructure. McAfee’s service is trusted and designed to deliver security that is always on, always ready and always up-to-date.”

Lee Johns, director of marketing for StorageWorks at HP, said: “Customers want to share important documents, photos and media files with the assurance that they are protected from viruses and spy ware. When our customers access a file on their HP Data Vault device, McAfee Total Protection Service automatically scans and blocks viruses, spy ware, unwanted programs and other potential Internet threats to ensure greater security.”
