McAfee, security services company and Wind River, a wholly owned subsidiary of Intel Corp, have entered into a strategic agreement to develop, market, and support security offerings for non-PC devices, specifically embedded and mobile devices.

Under the agreement, both companies will create comprehensive, purpose-built security offerings designed for increasingly connected devices or networks of devices.

The new security offerings will provide purpose-built security and management offerings for embedded devices and mobile devices, said McAfee.

Both the companies will also offer protection and management capabilities to connected devices everywhere, with initial integrations between Wind River Linux and McAfee security offerings, followed by additional integrations with other Wind River OS and embedded virtualisation technologies.

In addition, Wind River will include McAfee security offerings in its future products to make it easier for original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) to build secure devices.

McAfee president and CEO Dave DeWalt said embedded devices are everywhere.

"The teaming of McAfee and Wind River will allow us to implement security measures to protect these critical devices and keep people more safe and secure," DeWalt said.

Wind River president Ken Klein said together with McAfee, they will deliver the most comprehensive security offerings in the embedded industry, with security offerings designed to protect all layers of the software stack.
