By Duncan Macrae

Marks & Spencer has implemented a retail product lifecycle management (PLM) solution from PTC (formerly Parametric Technology Corporation) .

The the UK retailer of quality clothing, food and home products selected PTC Windchill FlexPLM to manage product development for its general merchandise business across the enterprise.

As a global brand with more than 1,000 stores in more than 40 countries, Marks & Spencer said it has been trusted by customers to offer high-quality products at a great value for more than 130 years. The retailer recently unveiled plans for further international expansion with a focus on opening 250 new stores, growing its food business, and increasing its franchise operations.

Marks & Spencer is engaged in its GM4 Programme, a four-year systems transformation process within its general merchandise business. As part of this programme, Marks & Spencer will use the PTC solution to fulfil its enterprise PLM requirements.

Paul Byfleet, director – EMEA Retail, Apparel, Footwear and Consumer, PTC, said: "The retail industry is undergoing a major transformation, which is underscored by the need to improve operational efficiencies.

"Marks & Spencer has recognised the need for transforming its PLM system and the value this will bring to the future growth, profitability and operations of the business."
