LogLogic Inc, a company that develops software safeguards against internal and external threats with automated log management, is to acquire security event management outfit Exaprotect for its threat and security configuration change management products.
Details of the financials have not been disclosed, but the companies have confirmed that they expect the deal to complete by the end of June.
LogLogic had initially partnered with Exaprotect to roll out LogLogic Security Event Manager. CEO Pat Seultz told us, “With this acquisition, we now formally add two new products: one is a security event management solution, the other an automated security change management solution. It gives us a great advantage.”
The acquisition of Exaprotect will add security configuration change management functionalities to the company’s portfolio of log-powered applications and is expected to be generally available as LogLogic Change Manager as soon as the acquisition closes.
The company claims it will be able to sell the full gamut of security management options from threat detection, security configuration change management, security event correlation, compliance workflow automation and database monitoring. All aspects will feed into LogLogic’s core log management platform.
LogLogic’s line of appliances provide log management functions and reporting for regulatory compliance, and for operations use.
Seultz explained the thinking behind the acquisition. “In a recession, with slashed budgets, no one can afford the capital or the headcount to build end-to-end security from point products. You have to do more with less. Customers want bundled solutions. That’s why LogLogic in February launched three new products based on our log platform, one of which was based on a partnership with Exaprotect.”
Analyst house, the 451 Group described the move as allowing LogLogic to jump over the line between log management and enterprise security information management.
The deal is being described by Sueltz as a major milestone in the development of the company. It is expected to significantly increase LogLogic’s market presence, and bring the combined customer base to over 1,100 enterprise and service provider customers.
Sueltz joined LogLogic in 2007 from SurfControl where she was CEO, just before it was acquired by WebSense. Before that, she was President of Global Operations at Salesforce.com and an Executive VP for Sun Microsystems.
