LIN TV, a television and digital media company, has expanded its mobile offerings to include a new application for BlackBerry smartphones. The company has leveraged News Over Wireless’s (NOW) technology to develop custom BlackBerry smartphone applications for each of its 27 local television stations.
LIN TV said that its six stations will start services, including WISH-TV, WAVY-TV, KRQE-TV, WANE-TV, WALA-TV and KXAN-TV. It now provides instantaneous and on-demand access to news, sports and entertainment, as well as video, weather forecasts and traffic reports to BlackBerry smartphone subscribers.
During the second quarter of 2009, the company has announced its partnership with NOW to further extend its newsrooms and unveiled custom iPhone applications for each of its local television stations.
Robb Richter, senior vice president of new media at LIN TV, said: “Launching an application for BlackBerry is the natural next step in the evolution of LIN TV’s mobile business and will further our strategy to engage viewers any time of day and across any platform they may be viewing.
“We look forward to capitalising on the tremendous population of BlackBerry users to increase brand loyalty and grow additional revenue streams, including national and local advertising.”
