Network equipment maker Juniper Networks has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire SMobile Systems, a privately-held provider of smart phone and tablet security offerings for the enterprise, service provider and consumer markets, in a all cash deal of $70m.
Juniper said that it will integrate SMobile’s product portfolio, which protects devices running on Android, Apple iOS, BlackBerry, Symbian, and Windows Mobile operating systems from spyware, identity theft and viruses into its portfolio of Junos Pulse, which provides security, connectivity and acceleration to smart phones, tablets, netbooks and notebooks.
Mark Bauhaus, executive vice president and general manager for Services Layer Technologies at Juniper Networks, said: "Security breaches in today’s mobile environment are growing threats that impact everyone.
"Juniper already secures the majority of smart phone traffic in the US, is a global leader in high-end firewalls and the SSL VPN2 market, and enables more than 25 million end users to remotely and securely connect their PCs and smart phones to corporate networks.
"Integrating SMobile’s portfolio into Junos Pulse will provide users with the most comprehensive mobile security offering available on the market."
