Police investigating the breach in which hackers stole 84 million addresses from US banking giant JP Morgan are confident they are closing in on those responsible the New York Times has reported.
In October last year JP Morgan, which has retail and investment arms in the US, admitted its systems had been compromised and that hackers had stolen 84 million customer addresses and contact details.
Now The New York Times has reported that authorities in the US believe the attack was not as sophisticated as first believed and that the hackers involved are ‘gettable’.
The NYT reported people close to the investigation as saying they were confident a criinal trial would result from the investigation.
The paper said it had seen a copy of a security review carried out after the hack and that the bank had addressed ‘severe patch issues.’
