TCL Communication has bought the rights to Palm, the personal digital assistant maker, from HP which acquired the tech company back in 2010.

TCL is planning to launch new devices under the Palm banner, reported 9 to 5 Google. Palm also had a webOS division that was shut shortly after HP acquired the company, but was later bought by LG.

If new Palm phones are brought to market then it would require a different operating system, since the Palm OS is now owned by LG, reported NDTV Gadget.

According to reports, TCL is most likely to choose Android as the OS for Palm phones which will give birth to a new segment for TCL which already has Alcatel.

TCL is also expected to provide research, development, and engineering resources towards the creation of new products.

Phone Scoop reported TCL CEO George Guo as saying: "We are interested in the brand because we believe the brand has value."

"It was once a very strong brand and there are many fans of this brand around the world, including people at TCL. We are open to all ideas, but probably not webOS."
