Iran has lifted ban on the secure-protocol HTTPS version of Google search and Gmail service, while its video-sharing site YouTube still remains barred since 2009.
Iran telecommunications ministry committee member Mohammad Reza Miri said the agency wanted to block YouTube, and Gmail was also blocked, which was involuntary.
"We do not yet have enough technical know-how to differentiate between these two services," Miri said.
Google’s services were banned in the country on 24 September 2012 in response to an anti-Islam film video clips posted on YouTube,which sparked protests across the Muslim countries.

"We absolutely do not want YouTube to be accessible," Miri said.
"That is why the telecommunications ministry is seeking a solution to fix the problem to block YouTube under the HTTPS [Hypertext Transfer Protocol Secure] protocol while leaving Gmail accessible.

YouTube service was censored in Iran following demonstrators of the opposition protested vote fraud following elections.
Currently, Iran is developing an indigenous, closed version of the Internet for use in the country, which is claimed to be more secure and is exposed of un-Islamic content, while users’ data can be monitored easily.
