Iomega, an EMC company and a provider of data protection, has launched the new Personal Cloud technology that the company says provides data protection and remote access offering for small businesses and consumers.
The personal cloud offering is a Web-based computing architecture that connects user Iomega network storage device to other individuals and/or devices via the Internet.
The company said the new offering is completely self-owned, with the content and accessibility always under user control.
Users of new NAS devices can now create their own personal cloud through an onscreen personal cloud setup page, which asks users to name their personal cloud and then confirms creation of their personal cloud.
Users can invite up to 250 members (devices) into their personal cloud, giving users’ business contacts, co-workers or personal friends and family the ability to copy and share files directly between computers as they are on a local network.
The new personal cloud technology benefits and features include: no IT expertise needed to set up and manage personal cloud; affordable; synchronisation; collaboration; secure transfer of large or confidential files; and security and a disaster recovery plan.
The company will also launch its new Home Media Network Hard Drive Cloud edition, which allows users to share work files, photo slideshows, music libraries and other files with others (in the Internet) in 1TB and 2TB capacities.
The new Home Media Network Hard Drive Cloud edition uses EMC LifeLine software, a Linux operating environment and suite of applications designed for seamless cross-platform support with Windows, Mac and Linux computers.
The new Home Media Network Hard Drive Cloud edition features gigabit ethernet connecting directly to user router; remote access from anywhere in the world; built-in iTunes server for easy playback; and UPnP DLNA Certified AV Media Server.
