Intuit adds GoPayment app to Apple’s App Store

Allows businesses to process credit card payments using iPhone and iPod touch

By CBR Staff Writer

QuickBooks maker Intuit has made the GoPayment application available on the Apple’s App Store to help businesses process credit card payments using iPhone and iPod touch.

Intuit claims that the GoPayment application helps business owners get paid faster and improve cash flow by processing customer credit card payments. It also allows businesses to view past charges and send customers electronic receipts through e-mail or text message. For added control, users can also review transactions online and synchronise them with QuickBooks.

Chuck Harris, general manager of Payment Solutions at Intuit, said: “More and more entrepreneurs are relying on their iPhone or iPod touch to manage their business. Now with GoPayment this includes getting paid. And they get the peace of mind knowing that GoPayment – both the App and the actual merchant account – come from Intuit, a company that has helped millions of people manage their finances for more than 25 years.”

GoPayment reportedly allows business owners to add more employees to a single merchant account. Credit card data is never stored on the handset and is protected during transmission using the same technology as the financial services industry standard, the company said.

The GoPayment App is available for free download from the App Store on iPhone and iPod touch. In addition, to process credit card payments, business owners need an Intuit GoPayment merchant account, which costs around $20 a month and requires a one-time setup fee of around $60. Intuit said that it will waive both the setup fee as well as monthly fees for the first two months.

The GoPayment App works on iPhone and iPod touch OS versions 2.1 and later, and transactions can be synchronised with QuickBooks 2009 or later versions.
