The company says the processor will deliver desktop-like performance.

The new dual core Atom processor will be available in three versions which include Z2580 (2.0GHz), Z2560 (1.6GHz)and Z2520 (1.2 GHz).

The processor has Hyper-Threading Technology which supports four simultaneous application threads enhancing the performance of the Atom cores.

Intel mobile and communications group vice president, co-general manager, Hermann Eul said: "In less than a year’s time we have worked closely with our customers to bring Intel-based smartphones to market in more than 20 countries around the world, and have also delivered an industry-leading low-power Atom SoC tablet solution running Windows 8, and shipping with leading OEM customers today."

The processor includes support for 3D graphics, 1080p video at 30fps, 1920×1200 pixels display, an image signal processor, and Intel Identity Protection Technology to support to-factor authentication.

The chips come with Dalvik VM runtime, x86 trace-based JIT, Native Code Generation, JavaScript, and HTML5 code execution.
