Insyde Software launches UEFI-based InsydeQ2L

InsydeQ2L enables PC users to regularly boot Windows and operate their computers normally

By CBR Staff Writer

Insyde Software has announced an instant-on system with the unveiling of InsydeQ2L, for mobile PC original equipment manufacturers and original design manufacturers.

According to the company, InsydeQ2L is a firmware product stored in the basic input-output system read-only memory (BIOS ROM). Along with reducing boot time, it also provides an integration platform for secondary, instant-on operating environments.

The company said that these environments allow users to more quickly launch applications, especially when a boot to Windows is not necessary or desired. InsydeQ2L functions seamlessly in computers featuring Windows operating systems, allowing PC users to regularly boot Windows and operate their computers normally, the company noted.

InsydeQ2L enables industry standard power management features, offering effective power management and optimized battery life, added Insyde Software.

Barry Doong, vice president of the software and drivers group of Insyde Software, said: The demand for instant-on solutions is gaining momentum, but the available technology falls short of obtaining true instant-on computing. We believed faster startup times could be achieved through streamlining the boot process, and our many years of unified extensible firmware interface (UEFI) BIOS experience proved crucial toward accomplishing this goal. InsydeQ2L is the result of this breakthrough, and we are excited to help facilitate a new generation of instant-on solutions.
