Instagram beats Twitter on Mobile

The popular photo sharing app was accessed more on mobile devices than microblogging service, Twitter.

Instagram received more overall interaction on its mobile app than Twitter’s in August of this year.

According to a report published by AllThingsD, Instagram had an average of 73 million daily active users (DAUs) while Twitter had nearly 6.9 million.

The mobile measurement report also revealed that users spent over 4 hours accessing Instagram in August while Twitter was accessed for less than 3 hours on average.

Instagram’s acquisition by Facebook recently jumped hurdles by the OFT and FTC. Instagram received a hefty $715m for the deal.

Facebook officially announced its plan to acquire Instagram back in April. However, the deal was put on hold due to investigations by the Federal Trade Commission and Office of Fair Trading fearing the company could monopolise photo uploads.

In a statement about the Instagram purchase, Mark Zuckerberg said that it was an "important milestone for Facebook" as it was the first acquisition that had a product with such a large amount of users.

When and how Facebook will turn Instagram into a money making machine has yet to be seen.

Instagram is one of the fastest growing mobile apps to date. The mobile app has gained over 80 million users in under 2 years. Its founders think it can hit 100 million by the end of 2012.
