IBM has signed a definitive agreement to buy the Israel-based virtualisation management technology provider CSL International for its zEnterprise system for an undisclosed amount.
The transaction is part of company’s strategic investment in the System z portfolio, the consolidation and cloud capabilities of which it wants to strengthen by offering simplified management of the virtualisation environment.
With the integration, the clients can better manage and monitor their z/VM and Linux on System z virtualisation environments using a better and easy-to-use interface.
IBM System z business line executive, Greg Lotko, said that with the creation of smarter computing environments, clients are looking for ways to manage IT costs and complexity without sacrificing security or the ability to scale.
"The response by clients to the advantages of Linux on System z have been tremendous, with the shipped capacity nearly doubling in 1Q13 year to year," Lotko added.
"With the acquisition of CSL International, IBM expands its cloud virtualisation capabilities, making it even easier for clients to take advantage of Linux on System z."
Expected to close in the third quarter of 2013, the acquisition is subject to customary closing conditions and applicable regulatory reviews.
