IBM has unveiled a new hybrid cloud offering to help clients reduce the time it takes to connect, manage and secure public and private clouds.

The company said the hybrid cloud offering will deliver new integration and management capabilities for organisations of all sizes to gain greater control and automation into their assets and computing environments.

This will help integrate and manage all of an organisation’s on-and-off premise resources, as they are looking to leverage the flexibility of public cloud, but are concerned about losing control of resources outside of their four walls.

As such, organisations are embracing a hybrid cloud model, but are still facing challenge in integrating existing on-premise software including customer relationship management (CRM), enterprise resource planning (ERP) and homegrown applications, while managing their usage and security.

IBM said it is expanding its SmartCloud portfolio with new hybrid cloud technology, which is based on its Tivoli’s cloud management software to address this challenge.

The latest release comes with new capabilities which will define policies, quotas, limits, monitoring and performance rules for the public cloud similar as on-premise resources.

This allows users to access public cloud resources through a single-service catalogue, enabling IT staff to govern the access and the usage of this information in a secure way.

The new hybrid cloud offering enables better control of users’ access by synching the user directories of on-premise and cloud applications.

The hybrid cloud will also support "cloud bursting," which helps relocate workloads from private environments to public clouds during peak times.
