IBM has collaborated with Pivotal for further development of the Cloud Foundry platform and open source project as well as work jointly to create an open governance model for the community.
Cloud Foundry platform claimed to offer CIOs a more open and vibrant cloud development platform to address demand and avoid vendor lock-in.
Cloud Foundry is an interoperable Platform-as-a-Service framework that enables users to choose across cloud infrastructure and application programming models as well as cloud applications.
The open Cloud Foundry platform will also allow the users to rapidly build, deploy and manage cloud applications.
IBM Next Generation Platforms general manager Daniel Sabbah said: "IBM will incorporate Cloud Foundry into its open cloud architecture, and put its full support behind Cloud Foundry as an open and collaborative platform for cloud application development, as it has done historically for key technologies such as Linux and OpenStack."
Under the partnership, Pivotal will establish a community advisory board of Cloud Foundry users and vendors including IBM that will guide the community, while it will also direct the Cloud Foundry brand and preserve the trademark.
Pivotal CEO Paul Maritz said: "We believe that the Cloud Foundry platform has the potential to become an extraordinary asset that many players can leverage in an open way to enable a new generation of applications for the cloud."
Additionally, both the companies will join forces to launch a technology that enables programming languages or frameworks to be deployed on the Cloud Foundry platform.
The collaboration has introduced a preview version of WebSphere Application Server Liberty Core, that helps clients to speed the response to enterprise and market needs by allowing less complex, rapid development and deployment of web, mobile, social and analytic applications.
