IBM has debuted a new application development cloud, the IBM Power Development Platform (PDP), which offers developers with free cloud access to IBM Power Systems servers to develop, transfer and test applications.
The new platform is expected to attract the Linux developers looking for more powerful and modern servers that could support open, collaborative applications developed for Big Data, mobile and social business computing.
IBM PDP can be accessed using IBM’s PartnerWorld programme and offers distant access to the IBM POWER7 and POWER7+ processor-based servers running Linux, AIX and IBM i operating systems.
The platform also offers access to the Power Systems hardware platform along with Linux, and powers IBM Watson’s cognitive computing solutions.
IBM Power Systems general manager Doug Balog said the new era of computing requires more from technology infrastructure – faster insights, greater efficiency, tighter collaboration.
"Our new development cloud will serve as a springboard for innovation from a talented development community," Balog added.
"Providing cloud access to Power accelerates the development of applications that deliver even greater business value to our clients."
The PDP also features a new Linux porting image with IBM DB2 10.x, IBM WebSphere 8.5.5, and the Linux development tools for Power, while offering an entry point to the full IBM Software Group Software Access Catalog comprising downloadable IBM software applications.
