HP has introduced a unified information protection software application, Data Protector 7 that enables organisations to manage data with advanced backup and recovery capabilities.

Unlike traditional data protection approach, the Data Protector 7 automatically understands the context of unstructured, human information — such as social media, video, images, audio and email to identify and prioritise the data to be protected.

HP Autonomy Data Protection chief executive officer David Jones said, "HP Data Protector is the industry’s first unified data protection solution that utilizes an intelligent data-management approach to seamlessly protect data based on its meaning across on-premise, hybrid and cloud environments, while optimizing business application performance."

The new application is powered by the Autonomy Intelligent Data Operating Layer (IDOL) and delivers a unified platform for all storage assets via federated deduplication.

Autonomy IDOL helps in indexing the data allowing the data to be automatically accessed and applied to several cloud-based solutions, including archiving, eDiscovery, information governance and revenue optimisation

The company also introduced new release of HP StoreOnce data deduplication, a federated application that deduplicates data using a single technology and then moves data anywhere without having to be rehydrated or added back in.

Data Protector 7 and StoreOnce applications enable clients eliminate redundant data and identify the content most important for the business to protect.

HP Data Protector 7 enables clients to meet legal discovery and compliance needs by utilising governance tools to perform contextual search on backup data, as well as find and recover information based on the meaning.

Enterprises can now achieve zero-downtime recovery of information and also granular single-item recovery of SharePoint, VMware and Microsoft Exchange data.

Data Protector 7 is integrated with HP StoreOnce B6200 to extend advanced federated deduplication from data-centre core to the edge, accelerating enterprise-wide information protection.

It also extends information protection to cloud-based offsite storage with integrated access to the secure Autonomy private cloud.
