HP forms security research unit

To provide actionable security intelligence with published reports and threat briefings

By CBR Staff Writer

HP has formed the HP Security Research (HPSR) unit to provide actionable intelligence to expand its security product portfolio.

The HPSR will be part of the HP Enterprise Security Products (ESP) business unit that will leverage HP DVLabs and HP Fortify Software Security Research.

HPSR will also be responsible for managing the Zero Day Initiative (ZDI), which focuses on identifying software flaws that have led to cyberattacks and security breaches.

HP Enterprise Security Products senior vice president and general manager Art Gilliland said that organisations need the latest in security research to effectively prevent, detect and combat the growing number of sophisticated threats.

"HP empowers clients to address the most advanced threats by combining access to a global network of security experts and published research with the power of that expertise built directly into our products and services," Gilliland added.

The company has also revamped its RepSM 1.5 which ia claimed to protect clients against advanced threats by leveraging data feeds directly from HPSR that improve identification of peer-to-peer network use, and detection of potential spear phishing and spam.

The company has also developed the HP ArcSight Express 4.0 that integrates security information and event management (SIEM), log management, and user activity monitoring application for midmarket organisations with large volumes of data and limited resources.
