How Aer Lingus is maximising revenues

The airline is using mobile apps from Advanced Business Solutions.

By Amy-Jo Crowley

Aer Lingus is looking to drive efficiency in procurement and reduce costs after introducing a set of mobile apps from Advanced Business Solutions.

The real-time apps are due out in December this year and will communicate with the airline’s core e5 financial management system, which is managed via Advanced’s cloud-hosted Air Administration gateway.

As a result, senior managers will be able to approve or reject transactions from Apple and Android smart devices wherever they are.

Other features will allow authorised managers to approve transactions when they’re offline and attach notes if a transaction is rejected, the firms claim.

John Greene, head of Aer Lingus’s Data Governance and Enterprise Reporting, said: "Investing in mobile technologies is a key part of our IT strategy to maintain a competitive advantage.

"We saw an opportunity to extend this by streamlining our back-office processes to offer greater mobility and visibility to senior staff that spend time out of the office.

The airline also selected Advanced Air Approvals, which it claims will "tightly" manage its finances.

For example, users will be able to extract data from e5 to determine whether to approve an invoice without a corresponding purchase order.

Greene added: "Since implementing Advanced’s finance, eProcurement and spend analysis solutions we have been able to transform our management of over €1bn of annual spend.

"Using Advanced’s automated app will further assist us to approve invoices more efficiently to ensure greater financial control and compliance."
