The Hilton Hotel franchise has reportedly become the latest victim of a cyberattack with hackers stealing credit card data.
Online security analyst, Brian Krebs said hackers have compromised point-of-sale registers in gift shops and restaurants at several Hilton Hotel and franchise properties across the US.
Visa sent confidential alerts to several financial organisations warning of a breach between 21 April and 27 July.
Five different banks have determined that the cards in the alert had all been used at Hilton, according to sources cited by Krebs.
Krebs said the cards had been used at Hilton properties, including the company’s Hilton locations as well as Embassy Suites, Doubletree, Hampton Inn and Suites, and the upscale Waldorf Astoria Hotels & Resorts.
Various sources in the financial industry told KrebsOnSecurity that the incident could date back to November 2014, and may still be continuing.
Hilton said it is investigating the breach claims. A company spokesman said: "We have many systems in place and work with some of the top experts in the field to address data security.

"Unfortunately the possibility of fraudulent credit card activity is all too common for every company in today’s marketplace. We take any potential issue very seriously, and we are looking into this matter."
