Headphones let you share songs on Facebook and Twitter

Startup Muzik set to release wearable technology later this year.

By Joe Curtis

Headphones that let you share music with friends via social networks are set to hit the market at the end of 2013, it has been revealed.

Startup Muzik’s smart headphones will allow listeners to instantly share the song they are listening to on Facebook and Twitter.

CEO of the new company, Jason Hardi, built the headphones with a technological innovation he has trademarked Social Smartware, which allows wearable technology to interact with other electronic devices to stay in touch with friends.

The entrepreneur said: ""Headphones will never again just be for listening to music or talking on the phone – our headphones will improve the way we socially discover, share, listen and experience music.

"In addition to music exploration, I look forward to working with the developer community to create amazing applications leveraging smart headphones."

Listeners can press a button on the side of the headphones to share the music with friends via Facebook, Twitter or Muzik’s own app, or to save a track to their playlist.

The headphones send signals to their smartphone via Bluetooth, and the social network links the user posts will link friends to song posts on Muzik’s app, which also follows the music they listen to, and compiles top track lists based on charts and other music sites.

The startup has secured an initial $3.3m in funding, and has begun manufacturing with a release date coming in the fourth quarter of the year.

John Cawley, vice chairman and chief security officer of Muzik, said: "We are not another headphone company in the audio space. We are a wearable technology company making smart headphones and accessories.

"Jason’s vision is genius and we were singularly focused on joining the ranks of the world’s most innovative companies – Apple, Google, Microsoft, Nike and Samsung – in one of today’s hottest sectors, wearable technology and connected devices."
