Harris introduces Videotek TVM-4MA metadata analyzer

It enables broadcast operations to streamline the processes in both traditional and business models

By CBR Staff Writer

Harris Corporation has introduced the Videotek TVM-4MA metadata analyzer that discovers, reports, monitors and triggers alarms on the ancillary data present in an HD or SD-SDI signal.

According to Harris, the TVM-4MA provides a list of all ancillary and vertical blanking interval (VBI) data present in a strategic defense initiative (SDI) video signal. Similar products force the user to manually scroll through a list of all possible data identifiers in order to determine, which are active.

The company said that the new Harris device allows engineers to display data packet contents on screen or save them to a file for manipulation into common spreadsheets. The tool also initiates an alarm when data is lost or when new data types appear in the signal.

Furthermore it said that the TVM-4MA reports data location and repetition rate, and decodes and analyzes many common data types, including active format description and bar data, DTV closed caption, Dolby metadata, video payload ID, embedded audio and ancillary time codes. Options include a dual rackmount case, a portable case with handle and tilt feet and international power cords for units in Australia, the UK and throughout Europe.

Tim Thorsteinson, president of Harris Broadcast Communications, said: As broadcast networks make increased use of the ancillary data space to control downstream equipment and distribute information to affiliates, it is important to verify the placement and transport of the many data types in use. The TVM-4MA is one of the many products Harris is introducing at NAB that enable today’s broadcast operations to streamline their processes in both traditional and emerging business models.
