32% of employees will spend one hour or more shopping online

By CBR Staff Writer

Half of American employees will do their shopping online from their workplace this holiday season, according to a survey by an online employment site, CareerBuilder.

It adds that this year’s Cyber Monday is likely to witness massive online sales just like in 2010.

CareerBuilder said online shopping would be on par with the figure of 52% from workplace last year. Of these, 34% will spend one hour or more shopping, while 16% will spend two or more hours this year, up from last year.

The survey on employees’ activities at workplace was conducted between August and September among 4,384 workers and 2,696 employers.

Half of US companies monitor internet and email use of employees, which is up from 47 percent last year, the company added. It was further found that around 56% of workers check their profiles on social networks during their typical work-days, up from 49% in 2010. While 61% of them send non-work related emails during their typical workday, a slight increase from 59% in 2010.
