Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev denied reports that he was stepping down, after hackers hijacked his Twitter account to spread a fake message that he is resigning.
A tweet from Medvedev’s official Russian-language account, @MedvedevRussia, read: "I am resigning. I am ashamed of the government’s actions. I’m sorry."
He also reportedly tweeted that he is quitting his post to become a freelance photographer and he didn not agree with his boss Vladimir Putin’s policies.
Following the incident, an unnamed government official told Bloomberg, "The Twitter account of the prime minister was hacked and the recent posts about his resignation and plans to become a freelance photographer are false."
The hacking group, Shaltay Boltay, which had earlier reportedly gained access to the email accounts of Russian politicians and published the private conversations, has also denied its involvement in hacking of Twitter account.
