Cyber criminals are trying exploit, one of the world’s worst epidemic by sending malicious emails, promising users to provide information regarding prevention of Ebola.
The emails designed such that it appears to be sent from World Health Organization (WHO) or the Mexican government.
It prompts users to open an attachment that contains malware, if opened the malware could get installed in users system.
The malicious attachment includes DarkComet Remote Access Trojan (RAT) which cannot be detected by antivirus software, reported Trustwave’s SpiderLabs.
If RAT gets installed it will provide hackers remote access to sensitive user information including passwords, webcam and keystrokes, and it is capable of modifying system host files, get system information, and steal torrent files.
Experts believe that it is a low volume campaign and it is not a planned attack as hackers are targeting random users.
The latest campaign is similar to a Fake video sent to Facebook users about the missing Malaysian Boeing MH370 which redirected users to a malicious websites.
The US Department of Homeland Security’s Emergency Readiness Team’s (US-CERT) has issued warning to users regarding the latest scam and has advised users not to open suspicious attachments.
