Greenplum launches new integrated data cloud platform

Based on Dell's PowerEdge C2100 servers

By CBR Staff Writer

Greenplum Software said that it has jointly developed a new offering that pairs its Enterprise Data Cloud platform with Dell’s PowerEdge C2100 servers.

The company said that the new offering is designed to capture, organise and manage large amounts of data generated by global organisations.

Based on the Greenplum Database, the Enterprise Data Cloud is a software-based platform that enables users to create and manage data warehouses and data marts that can be deployed across a common pool of physical, virtual or public cloud infrastructure. The platform features self-service provisioning, the ability to expand system capacity, and an optimised parallel database core, the company said.

The company said that the cluster of Dell PowerEdge C2100 servers running Greenplum operates as a single database supercomputer. It automatically partitions and parallelises queries and can consolidate databases onto a single common compute platform capable of supporting petabyte-scale data warehousing. Organisations can also add additional servers for scaling capacity.

Scott Yara, co-founder and president of Greenplum, said: With its balance of compute, memory and storage resources, the Dell PowerEdge C2100 constitutes an exceptional platform for taking full advantage of Greenplum Database’s shared-nothing, massively parallel procession (MPP) architecture.

“Cost efficiency and high performance are paramount, whether it’s a new data mart or a wide-ranging Enterprise Data Cloud platform deployment, and the Greenplum/Dell solution is our most competitively priced and fastest solution to date.
