Under the GreenHeart brand, Sony Ericsson introduced the C901and the Naite. It has also unveiled the MH300 headset and a special power-saving charger for the Naite, additionally.

The two green handsets claim to reduce CO2 emissions by 15% compared to other handsets of the company. By using recycled plastics and reducing the use of solvents in the paints, the company claims to have made the handsets ‘greener’.

Hideki Komiyama, chief executive of Sony Ericsson, said in a statement: “Today we are announcing … a commitment to roll out these innovations across the broader portfolio in 2010 and 2011.

Sony Ericsson said that its new models will use at least 50% recycled plastics — similar to Nokia’s 3110 Evolve. The company also announced plans to cut 20% of its CO2 emissions by 2015, following the footsteps of Nokia.

The C901 GreenHeart measures 105x45x133mm and weighs 107g. The handset also features a 2.2” 240×320 display, a 5Mp camera with 16x zoom and xenon flash, integrated GPS, media player and Bluetooth connectivity.

The Naite comes with a 2Mp camera. The phone features the same 2.2” display and Bluetooth connectivity and measures 108x47x12.6mm. It is available with a carbon footprint calculator.

Sony Ericsson reportedly sells around 100m phones a year globally; in 2008, more than 31m phones were sold in the UK.

The C901 Greenheart, the Naite and the MH300 GreenHeart headset will be available in Q3, 2009. The prices for the handsets will depend on the carrier and tariff, the company stated.
