People trying to prove their identities using Gov.uk Verify have encountered problems.
Those using the beta-launched identity assurance service on the Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs (Defra) website have been unable to register properly, according to comments online.
Defra is the first website to use Verify for a small test pool of users, but several of them have complained they have been unable to register with Experian, the only firm currently certified by government to confirm identities.
User E M Wilson wrote: "I was not able to register as Experian could not verify my identity ??"
And Simon Caudwell said: "Unable to register with Experian. Been through the whole process twice now and talked to Experian help line on both occasions but they are still unable to make it work. Latest advice is to leave it until next week and try again!"
A government blog post recognised the issues and said it was seeking to improve the situation.
It read: "Nobody is excluded from the service if they can’t register. The certified companies have telephone help lines you can call if you have problems. The registration packs also have helpline details."
