Google is trialling a new online shopping service with same-day delivery known as Google Shopping Express.
The new pilot project, being trialed in San Francisco, is aimed at allowing local residents to order items from participating retailers and they can also get items from multiple stores.
Google Shopping Express product management director Tom Fallows said it’s a local delivery service which will allow consumers to get the items ordered online the same day, and at a lower cost.
"As a tester, you will be able to shop online, in a single place, from retailers such as Target, Walgreens, Staples, American Eagle and Toys"R"Us/Babies"R"Us — along with locally distinct shops such as San Francisco’s Blue Bottle Coffee, and the Bay Area’s Palo Alto Toy & Sport and Raley’s Nob Hill Foods, and get your items delivered that same day. So hopefully, no more trips across town for simple errands," Fallows said.
In addition, the delivery service is expected to encourage merchants to buy more online ads the service spurs consumers to increase their purchases online.
In February 2013, Google agreed to acquire Channel Intelligence to add online marketing tools retailers use to strengthen Internet sales, while in November 2012, it purchased BufferBox, which is a service for delivering e- commerce goods to physical kiosks.
