Silicon Valley-based SRI International has said that its 2D video stabilisation software has been embedded into Google Talk applications and is available on Android 3.0+ devices for tablet users.

SRI International is a nonprofit research and development organisation, which performs sponsored R&D for governments, businesses, and foundations.

Its new video stabilisation software addresses the need to stabilise videos when people are moving and talking during a video chat. Usually movement causes the transmitted images to appear shaky and hard to watch.

Video technology researchers at SRI Sarnoff began working on the stabilisation problem in the early 1990s, when they developed a way to electronically stabilise and enhance surveillance videos.

SRI Ventures vice-president Norman Winarsky said Google has selected SRI technology for stabilising video chats and conferences on Google Talk, making video conversations with a stable picture an anytime, anywhere experience for tablet users.

Winarsky said, "As leaders in vision and video research, we continue to enhance consumers’ positive user experience. This mobile device innovation is a reflection of SRI’s strategic research and development, focused on meeting important market needs."
