Google has never copied anything from Apple’s iPhone when developing its Android operating system, the company’s vice president Hiroshi Lockheimer has admitted.
Called as a witness in the ongoing Apple vs Samsung patent infringement trial, Lockheimer also noted that his company had been developing several software features in conflict in the latest trial before the launch of Apple’s first iPhone in 2007.
"We like to have our own identity," Lockheimer said. "We like to have our own ideas."
Apple alleges the South Korean firm has caused $2.2bn in damages by infringing five of iPhone technologies for their Samsung Galaxy collection of devices.
Samsung refutes the charges and says that Google developed Android technolgies much before Apple’s iPhone.
Last week, Apple hit a major obstacle in the long-running case after failing to demonstrate how Samsung uses three of the five patented technologies.
