Google is launching a new version of its search product, GSA 6.8 (Google Search Appliance), which is designed to make searching through content in the cloud easier.

The company said Cloud Connect for the Google Search Appliance lets workers search across both on-premise and cloud-based content from a single search box, delivering comprehensive results and improving productivity.

Cloud Connect displays relevant, personalised results from Google Docs and Google Sites alongside results from traditional repositories, like file shares and content management systems.

It also provides access to collaborative documents, spreadsheets, presentations and sites and lets users search content from Twitter, as well as blogs and industry websites via Google Site Search.

The GSA 6.8 also includes People Search, which enables collaboration by helping people to connect more quickly with colleagues based on their corporate directory information.

It facilitates to find experts and contact coworkers who are related to a search query, right from the search results page.

Organisations can index personnel information like department, interests, expertise and location, and there’s an LDAP connector to help get People Search up and running quickly.

In addition, GSA 6.8 incorporates Dynamic Navigation feature that allows users to drill down into search results based on search modifiers for their queries

The Search Appliance also now supports Microsoft Sharepoint 2010 content without the need for additional connectors.
