Google is tightening up its spam filter for non-Latin characters, which was rolled out to expand its global reach.
According to Google, spammers can misuse some of the non-Latin characters to send spam messages to unsuspecting users.
The spam community usually registers to mixed-language domains to make the visitors think that the sites and URL’s are legitimate.
With the new filter, Gmail will reject emails with combined letters after scrutinising the characters using Unicode Consortium’s "Highly Restricted" specification.
It will now filter the combination of characters to figure out the real domains and the ones created just to abuse.
In its blog, Google said: "We’re rolling out the changes today, and hope that others across the industry will follow suit.
"Together, we can help ensure that international domains continue to flourish, allowing both users and businesses to have a tête-à-tête in the language of their choosing."
