Google is delaying the rollout of Android 3.0 Honeycomb, its open source OS for smartphones. The search engine company said that the product needs to be fine tuned before it is made available for all devices including smartphones.
Google had demonstrated its latest version of OS, specifically developed for tablet computers, on Motorola’s Xoom tablet at the Mobile World Congress in February this year . The tablet is on sale for about a month now.
However Google told Reuters that the OS is ready for all types of devices.
A Google spokeswoman said, "While we’re excited to offer these new features to Android tablets, we have more work to do before we can deliver them to other device types including phones."
Google has also said that it is committed to providing Android as an open platform and will publish the source as soon as it’s ready.
"We’re committed to providing Android as an open platform across many device types and will publish the source as soon as it’s ready," the company said.
