The new capability means that users can receive messages in a different language and instantly translate it into English. The new feature is an extremely convenient tool for those who do business with other countries, as the feature gives a solution to language barrier problems.
Automated Message translation was initially introduced in Gmail labs in 2009. The feature became popular with many Gmail users, particularly those who needed to constantly communicate with others across the world.
"If all parties are using Gmail, you can have entire conversations in multiple languages with each participant reading the messages in whatever language is most comfortable for them," said Gmail in 2009 on their blog."
The new feature will now roll out among all Gmail users over the next few days.
"Since message translation was one of the most popular labs, we decided it was time to graduate from Gmail Labs and move into the real world," said Jeff Chin, Product Manager at Google Translate. "Over the next few days, everyone who uses Gmail will be getting the convenience of translation added to their email. The next time you receive a message in a language other than your own, just click on Translate message in the header at the top of the message and it will instantly be translated into your language."
Users who are bilingual will have the option to turn off the feature, Gmail users who regularly need translation can have the feature translate each message they receive in their inbox.
