Gmail 5.0 boasts new functions and design

Google releases Gmail 5.0 with new design and functional upgrade

By CBR Staff Writer

The latest version of the Gmail app has been released by Google. Gmail 5.0 boasts a new material design and a functional upgrade from previous version.

Gmail app users will no longer have to use stock email apps to view mails from other IMAP and POP accounts, as the update enables users to add email accounts from other services like Yahoo Mail and Outlook.

Designed to give a cleaner look, the revamped Gmail has more white space and a red stripe across the top. A new compose button is also featured, located in the lower right of the screen, in additon to a reply button at the bottom.

Additional changes includes a new attachment button on the upper right of the screen and a new button on the top right for moving emails to different folders.

The updated app will be available for devices running on Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) and above, but Android Lollipop users will get an additional feature allowing them to hide sensitive lockscreen notifications.
