Fujitsu has unveiled a new version of Symfoware Server, a new database management software product that supports multiple platforms including mainframes, Unix servers and PC servers in Japan.

The company claims that the Symfoware Server V10 runs approximately ten times as fast as its predecessor and is capable of handling XML data and implements the new specifications of application programming interfaces (APIs). It enables the creation of  database systems in addition to reducing the labour involved in developing and maintaining systems when building and operating them.

According to Fujitsu, the newly released Symfoware Server V10 features various of the company’s technologies including Direct Connect that helps application servers to link directly to a specific database for faster connections and Multi Versioning for faster execution of applications in parallel.

In addition, the new database software has the ability to handle XML data, which makes it possible to mix heterogeneous data formats. The new custom elements added to existing relational databases are stored without conversion to XML-formatted data and uses XML-standard XQuery as the interface, the company said.

The software supports new specifications of standard language interfaces such as JDBC and .NET Framework. Its search uses pattern-matching methods that allows large volumes of data to be searched without indexing, Fujitsu added.
